This place was clean and comfortable with a nice breakfast. However, we booked it as a hotel with a bar and restaurant, which had ceased to operate by the time we got there. This is an issue in a fairly remote location with no other dining options. We were hiking, and the nearest place was almost 2 miles away. It needs to rebrand as a bed and breakfast. Although the staff were lovely, reception was usually closed with a phone number to call. This was the second time this has happened on our trip to Orkney. There seems to be a serious issue with finding staff, even though demand is high. While we were there, at least half the guests were hikers and cyclists. With no restaurant, perhaps the former hotel facilities could be converted into a self catering lounge with kitchen area, maybe a washer dryer. Drying room for boots and wet coats would be good. The life saver is the big Asda across the street with a good selection of food and alcohol!
