I called this hotel in the early hours of Sunday to see if by chance a room was available. I was informed that indeed, there was a vacant room, and that I could book through expedia and check in immediately. Upon arriving, after a 30 minute cab ride, the front desk reversed course and said actually, there's no room. The manager that came out to speak to me was rude little punk, and refused to acknowledge that I had just been instructed to go ahead with the booking. After a discussion, he agreed to refund the room so that I could be on my way, and find a different hotel. He then scurried into the back office and hid, never returning to confirm the refund. Instead he called security, leaving me waiting at the front desk for 10 minutes. The security were solid, stand up guys who recognized that I was in the right and went to the back to talk to the yellow-bellied child of a front desk manager. They assured me that he had agreed to refund in full, and I left.
The hotel has not honored this. The money is of no concern, it's the principle, Do the right thing Soho "Grand"
I'd recommend going elsewhere, there are hundreds of options with professionals working. Props to the security however, hopefully your colleague can one day learn how to be a real man before he turns 65
