We saw this on our first day. I would highly recommend meandering through the cobbled streets up to it. It is a gentle walk with a steady incline but the streets are beautiful (think Italian/ Greek cobbled streets) and you can go through the bazaar (located just above the port). Views of Kaleici from near the clock tower are also great. Tip: jump on the cute tram after you've visited he clock tower. On one side it goes all the way to a beautiful park and on the other end is an excellent museum as well as access to a beach with mountains in the background. Very cheap too! TL8.50 gets you two journeys.
