Interesting history
Like staying at quirky places with bit of history/character and this fits the bill. Great location especially for walking into town (walking back is bit up hill!) Brilliant value for money. Just what we were looking for.

Very romantic hotel- great for couples
My fiancee and I stayed here for about a week, and very much enjoyed our experience. The hotel has a very unique, very romantic, ambiance. Our room was small, but still comfortable. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant were fantastic, although expensive. I would not recommend the hotel to business travelers, as it is dark and people in adjacent rooms and the bar may be staying up late and making some noise. For a couple on vacation, however, it was a great deal for the price. The history of the hotel is pretty fascinating too, and the overall decor is fantastic. The setup of our room was a little strange, however: bathtub in the entryway (on carpet) and toilet in the shower.

Nice location and interesting history
This was indeed a very interesting hotel for me since I didn't read about the history of the hotel before booking. (You should do it!) The hotel is recently renovated and it is clean, however expect very small rooms with little space and no fridge!. The location of the hotel is very good, you can reach the center in 15 minutes on foot and there is also a metro stop nearby. We tried the hotel's breakfast once and it was good but I think a bit expensive. The behavior of the staff was good, but they speak English only at the reception so I had some difficulties asking some questions at the breakfast time.

Worst hotel ever
Hotel never warned us there were construction work directly outside the hotel making it impossible to carry heavy luggages to the front of the hotel. The whole Rue du Berger road was dug up and had no pavements so no transport can drop off luggages in front of the hotel.

4 days as a couple
The Hotel Berger is a quirky colourful hotel with an equally colourful past. The black and red stairwell leading up to the bedrooms and low lighting is evocative of the hotel's previous form as a bordello and while amusing, makes unlocking your black bedroom door somewhat of a challenge. The standard room in which we stayed was tiny, allowing room for a double bed, pressed up against a wall with one bedside table only. The en-suite shower room has only space for a good shower but with clinging shower curtain and a WC so that the hand basin is at the foot of the bed. Not ideal for cleanliness. The staff were all perfectly courteous and polite and the cleanliness of the hotel was extremely good. The public areas are all well maintained and comfortably weird looking with a stuffed peacock in reception. I would recommend this hotel for a weekend if you wish to visit Brussels with a partner and want somewhere reasonably priced within walking distance of the city and don't need to spend any time in your hotel room other than in bed. It would not be suitable for a business traveller who may need a desk or at least a chair in their hotel room.

Brothel Ambiance
The Hotel seems very nice when you walk into the lobby and the staff are friendly, but when you go to the back and up the elevator that barely fits two humans, the scenery changes significantly. The lighting is extremely dim, there is no sunlight, the wallpaper is very dark, and the lights are red and and corridors are very dark. I felt like I walked into a brothel. I felt very uncomfortable. The room had only one extremely small window that didn't open. The room BARELY fit the bed. If we weren't so exhausted from our trip, we would have walked out of the hotel and booked somewhere else.

Good value option for those who dislike chains
Stayed here one night for business. Room is clean and comfortable although very short on power sockets - had to unplug lamp to charge phone - but otherwise fine and the wifi works. Staff excellent, breakfast very good, and the location is extremely convenient for the Metro. The hotel is very quirkly decorated and is not your standard issue chain hotel so if you're the sort of person who likes a bit of character in your accommodation, it's an excellent choice If you're the sort of traveller who likes pale coloured walls and a desk facility, then this isn't for you

Lovely stay for couple's weekend getaway
Brussels is a beautiful city and we were lucky enough to catch the tail end of all the Christmas markets! My boyfriend and I stayed for three nights at Le Berger and were very pleased with the pleasant staff, manageable distance to the city center (10-15 minute walk only) with a large shopping area nearby, and very cozy beds. It was hard to wake up in the morning after long days of exploring! We did not experience the attached restaurant but we found a really wonderful cafe/coffee shop called Jat that I highly recommend if you're into nice specialty drinks and delicious brunch/bagel sandwiches.

Rooms are good
Good thing first: the room is clean and comfort with atmosphere. The access is not so bad: it is close to the Porte of Namur although the path near the hotel is narrow and dirty. However, the elevator of the hotel is terrible. I don't mean that I mind its tiny size (hardly capable for two people) or its manual outer door. But it is horrible that sometimes the elevator stops, the lights goes out and the inner door opens -- between the floors. I experienced this 4 times a day.

Hidden, gem of a hotel
Well located, very helpful staff and an extremely interesting hotel with an even more interesting history. Provides all the creature comforts and is close to the metro ( Porte de Namur - 10minn walk ) and to Place de Luxembourg ( 20 min walk ) where you can get the bus (12 or 21) to and from airport . Plenty of shopping around and not far by metro all the must see places.

A cool hotel with friendly staff. Would recommend!
Not your usual hotel! We had a lovely weekend away in Brussels in this slightly tucked out of the way hotel. Just a 20 minute walk (downhill) into the center of Brussels but only a 5 minute walk from some amazing designer shops, restaurants and a cinema. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was clean, tidy and really interesting with it's history clearly displayed. Possibly a little dark in the hotel hallways but this added to the whole atmosphere. We loved it!

Nice quirky hotel that was very comfortable.
Stayed for three nights and was very pleased. Had everything that was needed and the bar and restaurant downstairs waas very comfortable. Wifi worked well. Hotel location was very good 15min walk from Central Brussels and close to bus routes and the Metro.

Convenient Hotel at a great price
We were a little unsure of the Hotel following reviews we had read, so were pleasantly surprised when we arrived (having chosen one of the larger rooms) that there was plenty of space to hang clothes, and a modern room. We were facing th eroad, and could imagine with the window open it would cause noise disturbance through the night, but the double glazing was fine for us. The bar in the Hotel is great, staff friendly and happy to help. The only downside to us is the approach to the Hotel by a 'back road' which is narrow, and may cause issues if you were being met by someone in a car, as parking is limited. We stayed for 3 nights, and would be more than happy to stay again as this is sucha good value Hotel.

Great hotel concept, poor execution
Hotel Le Berger is supposed to be this hip hotel with a funky theme and entertainment for guests and locals. I get it. The concept is great but not for the hotel's guests. Two of the negative comments I'd read on the reviews were that the hotel is noisy and musty. Both should not be underestimated. My room led out to the main patio, which contained the stair well and outdoor seating. It is surrounded by four walls so it's more like a shaft than an outdoor patio. While it was too cold to dine out on the patio, smokers would often congregate in the area. This became incredibly noisy on Thursday and weekend nights as I'm sure they'd had a bit to drink, and the smoke filled the patio area because the shaft prevented any air circulation. Having the misfortune of a ground floor room, the loud chatter until 2:00 AM prevented a decent night's sleep and the smoke that penetrated my room's doors, windows, and walls was unbearable. I had to sleep next to a room freshener that I picked up from a local grocery store to neutralize the smell of smoke in my room. Additionally, while the room was spacious and comfortable (clean, large bed, and spacious shower), it was rather warm and very dimly lit. The restaurant and lounge area was quirky and I'm sure the weekend entertainment pleased many who stayed for leisure. However, I would not recommend staying at Hotel Le Berger if your trip wasn't intended as a vacation.

Room felt too claustophobic, couldn't stay for the duration I had booked - left after the first night and was out of pocket.

Good hotel for price in city center
Close to Metro (2blocks). Walking distance to Grand Place and other visitor sites. Difficult to find by GPS due to construction and road work. Le Berger restaurant was outstanding but let desk know in advance if you want a reservation. Room was good.. Bed great but you could not sit on toilet and close the door to the WC. Otherwise it was a good stay.

Musty
The room had a pretty strong smell to it. Musty I think. It wasn't unbearable but if you're sensitive to smells maybe it would bother you. There was construction going on nearby that was loud but that's not the hotel's fault.

Small, but cozy
While this was the tiniest room that I have ever stayed in, the location and breakfast made up for it. It was easy to walk to the Center after the filling buffet. The staff was very helpful, except for the guy who checked me in, but everyone else went above and beyond. The decor is really amazing, but it didn't make up for the shortcomings of room size.
