Mattress was very old & in a poor condition, it needed replacing. The support had collapsed & it was like trying to sleep in a trench! Totally unacceptable for any grade hotel never mind a 3 star. There was no replacement mattress or any other room available. All that was done was to turn the mattress which was a marginal improvement.

Overall the hotel was fine. It’s quirky with its wonky floors and ceilings, it’s very old so expect this. Staff were friendly, room was lovely and spacious with a fantastic view. Had a proper single bed for our teenage son which was excellent rather than most other hotels only offering a sofa bed. Had a bath as well which is wonderful. Breakfast was help yourself which was fine. Parking is limited but we were lucky to get a space right outside. It’s first come first served. £6 for 24 hours pay int the hotel, so not too bad if you manage to get a space. No room service available I did ask at reception, there’s a little bar in the hotel that sells food up to 9pm I think, but not our cup of tea really. Overall it was fine.

The Hotel very dated, seems NEVER been updated with furniture, beds carpets. Dining was bad, only 1-2 Items available from menu and even extra Gravy was an issue as could not provide because kitchen closed 10 minutes ago? Old sticky carpets, dated furniture over 30 years old, Surprised Bookings.com have this hotel on their site? any one booking CANCEL now. Very dissapointed with the bedroom , just a fan , noisy old windows, dated cupboards, very tiny small room , should have been a single room.

We wanted to be close to the Opera House as we were attending 3 shows as part of the international Gilbert and Sullivan festival. The hotel gave us a great rate, a really lovely, spacious room with a fantastic bathroom - and it was so close to the theatre we were back in the hotel before everyone was out of the theatre! A really good breakfast is provided, the hotel has a lovely bar - we enjoyed a cold beer boyh nights after the theatre - and although we didn’t take dinner there, they offer a great-sounding fixed-price menu which is really reasonably priced. Staff are so helpful and friendly. We would defistay there again.

Unique historic hotel well situated in the centre of Buxton. Helpful staff and good breakfast. Although I love the charm of this hotel, the rooms could use some basic upgrades such as painting, bedding, replacing shower curtains and bath mats in the rooms. Main pub and restaurant have the period charm I was hoping for.

We’ve stayed at the old hall many times before it was bought out. Although we were happy, I do feel the old hall has lost some of its charm. Such as with the breakfast, which was average and limited, no where near what it used to be.

The hotel is in a great central location and the staff are delightful and very accommodating. Nearby parking has to be paid for, but that is the norm in Buxton (a few minutes walk away are free areas). We had a late dinner after a gig and the staff were really helpful and flexible in arranging this after the advertised service cut off time. The food was excellent, really tasty and very generous portions for the price. Breakfast was fine (buffet so a little bit of a lottery). The hotel is quite old fashioned, which is a nice change but it could do with a lick of paint and maybe some targeted updating in a few areas.
