I wanted to give this hotel a great review but our experience started off rocky. We arrived at 10:30 am and asked the reception staff if there was any way we could check in before 2:30PM - we politely said we would be willing to pay as well because we were exhausted from travel. The younger boy advised we could not at the moment so we asked if we could wait in the lobby. While we waited, we noticed several people coming in and checking in early and also being pleasantly greeted by the staff, notably an employee named Gregerly. We were the only POC checking in as guests and we noticed that the other guests were treated a lot more personable and friendly than we were. Around 12:50pm there was another group that was able to check in early, so my sister went up to ask if there was any update for us. The younger boy asked for the name again and told her “you’ll have to come at 2:30 and I’ll let you know.” While we are aware that we’re not entitled to an early check in, that was not our issue. The discomfort and frustration was in the way we were treated compared to the other guests. Gregory made small talk and asked the guests if they needed anything else. Meanwhile when it was our turn to check in, he didn’t make eye contact, forgot to grab one of our bags, didn’t tell us about our amenities or thermostat functions, etc. Although the first day left a bad impression, we were able to turn it around with Antonio and Alasder - they were so helpful and provided great service.

Hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and courteous. Room was clean and the building itself was clearly well taken care of. The location though was just absolutely unbelievable. Views of Edinburgh Castle from your room and right when you walk out the front doors. Bus stops are close and many great food and shopping options are within walking distance. We were pleasantly surprised to wake up our first morning and find a pop-up market in the square across from the hotel. Just an amazing location especially for the price!

Great location, we walked everywhere. Friendly staff helped with issues raised. Good breakfast with plenty of options, but disappointmented when we asked the waiter a question about the food and he lied to our face about the ingrediants. That could be dangerous for someone. Bath tubs need attention, Carpets need attention spill marks.

The room was lovely and very spacious, ideally located hotel if looking to explore the main city and very close to the train station which is perfect when travelling with cases. The swimming pool and sauna were a very relaxing treat in the morning.

Overall a good stay. Staff were all very polite and obliging but the room was so so hot. So hot infact, we avoided the room on our stay even when we might liked to have rested for a no hour or two in amongst walking Edinburgh. There fan a fan, but that was wholly inadequate. The windows, I suspect for safety reasons didn’t open much to get air but of course when the try were a tiny bit open it was very noisy being right in Grassmarket. Breakfast was great….. too hot.

This was a fantastic hotel situated in a prime place for exploring the city. Seeing the castle the moment you step out the front door is a bonus. Staff were really helpful and the rooms were spacious and clean. The addition of a swimming pool meant that there was an extra activity for children while we were away! Would definitely come back

The hotel was very convenient locally wise. We were able to walk to Edinburgh Castle within 15 minutes. It can be a little loud at nighttime after bar hours but that is to be expected being in a busier area. The apartment is older but beautifully decorated and updated. We would definitely come back.
