I'll start with the only problem I had..The only reason I give it a 3 star is the strong sewer smell in the room and hallway. Maybe my room was worse than others - 636 (ocean view). I read complaints in the reviews and just thought people may have been exaggerating. It is true - It became pretty annoying to have to endure too long. After having been out in the sun all day having fun and coming back to this smell was just a bummer and felt unsanitary after awhile. We kept our balcony room door open through the entire night / time to offset the smell. The good stuff now! I love the resort though. The location was great! You are in a cool area where you can walk around. There's lounges, clubs, shops, stores, trendy restaurants literally within the same plaza as the hotel and directly across the street. It feels safe. No panhandlers. Entertainment is good. They do have systems in place to ensure turnover times are met. They don't play. The chairs and umbrellas on the main part of the beach are unavailable to you after a certain time - I think 5 or 6pm. Also the same rule for the pool, lunch and dinner but this is typical with most resorts. It's clean here. Rooms are cleaned 1x a day. They restock your fridge with beverages daily. Service throughout the resort is good. Food - There are several types of food available to you. The buffet was ok, like most. The Tavern is bar type food and pretty good. The pizza was always a nice treat. They have Asian and Mexican food too.

PLEASE DO NOT STAY AT THIS RESORT. The people are so rude, mean and have the nastiest attitude. They treated me and husband very badly. And we watched them treat most of the guests badly. All the bars closed whenever they felt like it. One day we stay at the bar until 2:00am in the morning the next day the same bartender said he was closing early. There is no food or drinks after 12:30am but this is an all inclusive resort!!! The pool bar closed everyday at 6:15pm but the pool closed at 7:00pm or later on some days so you would have to get out the pool and go get drinks from another bar. The food was horrible!!! They only have wings, burgers, pizza and pasta everyday, no Caribbean food. We stayed for 5 day and 4 nights and they only had entertainment one night. This was the worst vacation we’ve ever had. The employees is what really made this trip so bad because they treated us as if we was bothering them. We tried our best to make the best out of everyday but everyday we was ready to go home. We’re been out the country 14 time and this was the only time we have experienced been treated so bad. Please that my advice don’t stay here!!! They need to train they employees on how to make the guest feel better!!! We meet so many people while we was there and they felt the same way as us. The room was clean, the location is good, but nobody wants to go on vacation spending your hard earned money and people treating you bad. They don’t have no Caribbean vibes!!!

Some staff at the restaurants acted as if they were doing the guests a favor. Some of their attitudes were unfriendly. The pictures of the property online definitely do not match what’s in person. The pool had sand and the lining is bunching m. My room smelled like mold the entire time.

I thought the staff was wonderful! They were willing to jump in and help and were incredible. One of the best workers in the buffet was Sparks so was the nicest guy there! The pool entertainment was great and hilarious! I would definitely be back!

Pros: Beautiful beach, close to the airport and good area. Cons: Poor check-in experience. It was close to 6pm by the time our room was ready. Was given a $100 resort credit for the inconvenience, even though we were told it was going to be $150. Manager never came out to address our concerns. Instead hid inside and communicated via the front desk employee going back and forth. This was our first time at a Sonesta resort and it was quite disappointing. Resort employees, while respectful were not all friendly and rarely smiled.

Overall, it’s an all inclusive on a beach in a warm area so that alone is worth the trip. The facility was clean and well kept. There were some strange staff interactions…the pizza man was fighting with more than one customer, it was very, very strange and uncomfortable. We waited forever for him to serve the pizza at his stand. He seemed like a very unhappy person in general. There was a huge crowd of a reunion of women from a sorority there, very loud, very drunk, mostly just cheerful and happy but one did vomit next to the pool and behind the bar. There was a wedding which I love to watch so that was fun. The food was pretty good, we could always find something we liked and we really did like the bar tenders, very cheerful and happy. The entertainment people by the pool kept it lively. Our room was very comfortable. Overall a decent stay. I’m not a fan of St Marteen in general, just because I hate the shopping areas, the one by the cruise ship was oddly pushy. I couldn’t even shop and I felt unsafe. Near this property there are not a ton of stores but they weren’t pushy at all. I’d call it a 4/5 experience which made it a VERY good price for what we received. Great deal!

The staff was wonderful, especially the bartenders. Our second time there we will definitely go back.
