"Overall nice stay, however very overpriced for the experience. Restaurant staff is very inexperienced and English is difficult for most to understand for correct meal orders. If you’re there for the “bar-b-que” night, be warned it’s somewhat chaos and orders may not come out correct or at all. Never received my dinner order and had to walk up to the grill chef to wait for it. They’re simply overwhelmed. The toilets are not accepting toilet paper. "What made my stay was the caring nature of the owner and his daughter. They could not do enough to make my stay pleasant, even moved me rooms to one on the grounds of their own home.This room was excelente, marred only by the constant barking of their dog at night. Warning, do not book the cheapest room in the hostal, it is very small, has a shared bathroom across a pátio área and is next to the kitchen so extremely noisy all night long. Location not great of hostal, 10 minute walk to town...

"Let's be clear: San Pedro is kind of a weird place. The main tourist jumping-off point for the central Atacama, it clings tightly to a down-market, $5-a-day-backpacker image. The town offers essentially one long street of low-cost bars and restaurants, lounging stray dogs, energetic tour touts, cookie-cutter souvenir shops, and oddly expensive outdoor equipment dealers. In the evenings, all those backpackers kill time by walking up and down the street and looking for happy hour prices on beer....
